  • Air Force begins large detonations at Utah Test and Training Range

    The Air Force will begin large detonation operations at the Utah Test and Training Range (UTTR) today and lasting through the end of September 2020. The detonations will occur two or three times a week and involve destroying the rocket motors and solid propellant of Air Force and Navy ballistic missiles.

    Wendell "Joe" Webb works in the 414th Supply Chain Management Squadron as a lead equipment specialist. His job entails ensuring 100% positive inventory control of nuclear weapons related materiel. He is also responsible for bringing on-line the new NWRM tail kit assembly for the B61 Gravity Nuclear Weapon to be deployed both stateside and at overseas locations. He is from Visalia, California, and his hobbies include riding his Harley Davidson Road Glide Ultra, camping, and ATV trail riding.

  • The 388th Tactical Fighter Wing and arrival of the F-16 at Hill AFB

    On December 12, 1975, the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force announced its plan to relocate the 1550th Aircrew Training and Test Wing from Hill AFB to Kirtland AFB, New Mexico. The reassignment of the 1550th made available the space necessary to concurrently relocate the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing, equipped with 54 F-4D aircraft, from Korat Royal Thai Air Base, Thailand, to Hill AFB. Access to the Hill Air Force Range (now the Utah Test and Training Range, or UTTR) for support in completing required weapons training played a key role in the 388th TFW’s reassignment to the installation.

    Adapting to a changing work environment, the 309th Software Maintenance Wing and Software Engineering Group, units in the Ogden Air Logistics Complex at Hill Air Force Base, have worked through many challenges associated with COVID-19, while continuing to provide mission support to the warfighter and maintain mission readiness.
