Operations law is the domestic, foreign, and international law associated with the planning and execution of military operations in peacetime or hostilities. The term “operations law” is also used to describe the application of law to a specific mission of the supported DAF unit.
Legal support to DAF commanders is critical to mission success because proper legal counsel enhances commanders’ decision-making ability. Successful commanders are those who demand close coordination with their servicing Staff Judge Advocate. JAGs must be thoroughly integrated into unit planning and the execution of military operations to ensure mission accomplishment.
