Limited on-base lodging program assists PCS members

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah – Airmen and Guardians can now use a limited program that allows extended on-base lodging at a discounted rate while they secure permanent residence for their assignment at Hill.

Hill AFB qualifies for this temporary program, set to expire next year on Jan. 31, because of limited properties available to rent or purchase and because of increased costs in this housing market.

The discounted lodging room daily rate is 1/30th of the military member’s monthly housing allowance.

Melissa Edwards, 75th Force Support Squadron lodging manager, said permanent change of station, or PCS members should secure housing as soon as feasible but they will be allowed to stay in lodging based on 30-day increments with the proper certification.

This is an extension from the previous 10-day limit for on-base lodging.

“Before the airman or guardian can get the discounted rate, they must contact finance to secure the proper paperwork to present to the lodging manager certifying the date the member exhausted their 10-day TLE (Temporary Living Expense), Edwards said. “These discounted rates are not retroactive.”

The discount program and extension pertains only to on-base lodging. When on-base lodging is not available the member will be issued a non-availability letter and is required to stay off base.

Lodging will work with the member to bring them back on base when space becomes available.

Currently, Hill is a restriction of movement base where airmen are required to quarantine on base as they prepare to deploy. Edwards said this requirement uses all of her on-base availability.

“When the ROM deployers are lodged on base they occupy all rooms and we are then required to place all temporary duty or PCS members in a non-availability status and assist them with off base reservations,” she said. “Again, we will work with the member to bring them back on base when space becomes available.”

Edwards said she is happy this program will help military families during their PCS challenges.

“Our operation is here to assist Airmen moving to Hill AFB who are trying to secure housing for their families and this program will help with a cost savings in helping to secure that housing,” she said.
