HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- If you haven’t heard, the federal government announced last week that the new tax filing due date for individuals was extended from April 15, 2021, to May 17, 2021.
As result of the extension, the tax center at Hill Air Force Base will remain open through the new May 17 tax deadline.
The extension is automatic and applies to filing and payments. In other words, if you owe taxes for 2020, you have until May 17 to pay them without interest or penalties. Learn more about Tax Day for individuals being extended at irs.gov.
The base tax center has been operating since Feb. 8 of this year. However, due to the pandemic, all returns are being prepared remotely.
It’s important to note, this free tax preparation service is limited to active-duty service members, military retirees, and dependents, all with incomes of $85,000 or less.
To make an appointment to drop off your tax documents, call the center at 801-777-1040. Additional instructions will be provided over the telephone.
The center is located in building 349, room 101 (near 6th Street and B Lane), and is open Monday through Friday (except federal holidays) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Tax Day, May 17.
