High blood pressure is often called the “silent killer” for a reason. It typically has no symptoms, yet it’s one of the leading risk factors for heart disease and stroke. That’s why regular screening is so important. Knowing your numbers is the first step in protecting your health.

To raise awareness and promote prevention, the Civilian Health Promotion Services program has launched its quarterly campaign, “Check It to Protect It.” The campaign encourages participants to take charge of their health by understanding the causes of high blood pressure and adopting simple, sustainable lifestyle habits that support long-term wellness.

Opportunities to Participate

Through this campaign, CHPS offers several ways to learn and practice healthy behaviors:

  • Blood pressure screenings: A quick and painless test that helps detect high or low blood pressure and assess the risk of heart disease and stroke.
  • Maintain Don’t Gain Challenge: Participants use the Civilian Wellness Portal to track healthy habits and stay motivated throughout the holiday season. The challenge focuses on maintaining weight, making nutritious food choices and staying active.
  • Health education presentations: Sessions such as “Stress Less” and “Healthy Habits for a Healthy Life” offer practical strategies for managing stress, improving nutrition and building routines that support long-term wellness.
  • Live virtual deskside meditations: Guided sessions designed to reduce stress and promote mental clarity.

Managing blood pressure is not just about numbers. It’s about making informed, consistent choices that support overall well-being. The “Check It to Protect It” campaign empowers participants to take control of their heart health through regular screenings, healthy habits and stress management, especially during the often-hectic holiday season.

Join CHPS in making this holiday season heart-healthy, stress-free and full of mindful moments.
