HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- The Hill Air Force Base Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) team invites you to join them in observing Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM) throughout April. This year's theme, "Step forward. Prevent. Report. Advocate.," is a call to action for advancing positive change in preventing sexual violence. The theme highlights the power of acts that bolster prevention, increase reporting, and promote advocacy for a safer Department of Defense community.
In recognition of this observance, you and your families are invited to participate in the following events:
March 31: Paint the Town Teal. The SAPR office and volunteers from across the base will hang teal ribbons and banners to recognize April as SAAPM.
April 1–30: SAAPM Social Media Photo Booth. The SAPR office will set up a free photo station for participants to post on Facebook and Instagram throughout April to engage the installation and community in SAAPM.
April 22: Virtual SAAPM – Restorative Justice. This virtual event will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. on Zoom and will feature guest speaker Marlee Liss, who made history in the justice system when her sexual assault case became the first in North America to conclude with restorative justice through the courts. Since then, she has supported thousands in learning trauma-informed pleasure and inclusive consent education. Attendance will be capped at 350.
April 22: Trauma-Informed Leadership. This event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hill Chapel’s Fellowship Hall and will feature guest speaker Marlee Liss. The training will equip leaders with the knowledge and skills to understand the impact of trauma on individuals and create supportive, safe, and healing-oriented environments. It emphasizes recognizing the prevalence of trauma, understanding its manifestations, and avoiding re-traumatization through policies, practices, and interactions.
April 25: Connect for a Cause Challenge. Participants will follow a series of helping agency locations across the installation. Winners will receive an invitation to an ice cream social held on April 29 at Hill Chapel’s Fellowship Hall.
April 30: Denim Day. Wear denim to show your support for survivors. For more information about the significance of Denim Day, visit denimday.org.
