Updates to Hill AFB on-base dialing: What you need to know

Important updates have been made to both commercial and DSN dialing procedures at Hill, introducing new access codes and dialing requirements. These changes are designed to streamline processes and enhance calling capabilities.

Commercial Dialing Changes

All calls within the continental United States (CONUS) can now be made by dialing “99”, followed by the phone number. Previously, this feature was limited to local prefixes (801-XXX-XXXX and 385-XXX-XXXX) and toll-free numbers.

Additionally, all phone lines can now forward calls to any North American Standard phone number, regardless of area code. This improvement is made possible by a new flat-rate contract for CONUS calls, eliminating prior restrictions tied to long-distance tolls and limited long-distance lines.

International commercial calls remain restricted and require prior approval to configure phones for such use. Upon approval, users should dial “98-011”, followed by the country code and phone number.

At present, calls to areas outside the local region (formerly categorized as long-distance) can still be made by dialing “98,” followed by the area code and phone number. However, this feature will be discontinued soon. Moving forward, “99” will be the sole access code for all CONUS calls, while “98” will be exclusively reserved for international calls.

The three-digit 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline remains fully accessible without change.

DSN Dialing Changes

Currently, DSN calls are made by dialing the “94” prefix, followed by the seven-digit DSN number (e.g., 94-XXX-XXXX).

However, starting April 1, 2025, all DSN calls will require 10-digit dialing, which includes a DSN area/geographic code followed by the seven-digit number (e.g., 94-XXX-XXX-XXXX). The existing seven-digit dialing format will no longer be supported after this date.

The following DSN area/geographic codes must be used as part of the 10-digit dialing procedure:

  • 312: Continental United States (NOR THCOM) and Puerto Rico
  • 313: The Caribbean
  • 314: EUCOM
  • 315: INDOPACOM, including Japan, Korea, Guam, and Hawaii
  • 317: Alaska
  • 318: CENTCOM, including the Middle East
  • 319: Canada (Canadian Switched Network - CSN)
