Resources available for 2025 tax filing season

The Hill AFB Legal Office has compiled a list of resources to assist those preparing for the 2025 tax filing season, which starts on Monday, Jan. 27, 2025.

Military OneSource
• Free “do-it-yourself” (DIY) tax preparation and filing software.
• Free live consultation by phone or chat.
• Limited to service members and family.
• MilTax software is now available.

IRS Free File
• Free DIY online tax preparation and filing options.
• Limited to those with an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $84,000 or less.
• The IRS and industry-leading tax software companies deliver the program through the Free File Alliance to file taxes online.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
• Free basic tax return preparation and filing.
• Sites in Davis and Morgan counties are limited to those with AGI at $75,000 or less.
• Locate participating sites close to you at https://irs.treasury.gov/freetaxprep/.

Paid Professionals
• Certified public accountants, enrolled agents, attorneys, and many others.
• Most tax return preparers provide outstanding and professional tax service.

• IRS directory of credentialed tax-return preparers: https://irs.treasury.gov/rpo/rpo.jsf.

Helpful Tip:
The following documents are typically requited to file tax returns:
• Photo ID for all the adults in the household.
• Social Security cards for everyone in the household.
• Prior year return (preferred).
• Bank routing and account number for direct deposit
• Child and dependent care expenses (Tax ID of daycare provider)
• W2s, 1099s and 1098s
• Form 1095 A (Affordable Care Act)
• Documentation for any other income received (e.g. Uber, Door Dash, 1099K)
