HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- Hill Air Force Base recently named Mark Shepherd as the recipient of the 2024 Community Wingman Award. The announcement was made during a ceremony held last month.
This annual award recognizes individuals in the community who have made significant contributions to the base and its personnel, fostering a strong sense of community and support.
For over a decade, Shepherd has shown unwavering commitment to our nation’s military, advocating tirelessly for Hill AFB at local, state, and federal levels.
“Mayor Shepherd’s dedication and advocacy have been instrumental to strengthening the ties between Hill Air Force Base and our surrounding communities,” said Col. Dan Cornelius, 75th Air Base Wing commander. “His efforts have not only enhanced our mission readiness, but also enriched the lives of our Airmen and their families. We are grateful for his exceptional service and commitment.”
Shepherd’s dedication is evident in his transformative work as Mayor of Clearfield City, where he rebranded the city as “Utah’s Military City.” His leadership extended to his roles as honorary commander with both the 388th Maintenance Group and the 466th Fighter Squadron.
Appointed by Utah’s governor to the Military Installation Development Authority, Shepherd played a significant role in expanding military and job opportunities in Utah. He actively participates in the Association of Defense Communities and has had roles with the Military Communities Council for the National League of Cities, where he served twice as chairman, further exemplifying his dedication.
Currently, Shepherd serves on the board of the Utah Defense Alliance and as treasurer for the Top of Utah Military Affairs Committee. His ongoing efforts continue to benefit Hill and its Airmen.
