Following the successful completion of the 2024 Hill Air Show on June 29-30, which attracted thousands of visitors, Hill Air Force Base extended its gratitude to the volunteers who were integral to the event’s success.

“It takes a village to raise a family, and it certainly takes one to orchestrate an air show of this magnitude,” said Bill Flynn, director of the Hill Air Show. “The success of this year’s air show is a direct result of the dedication and effort of our community. We are grateful for the support and coordination from everyone involved.”

The event’s traffic and transportation plan were effective, thanks to partnerships with the Utah Department of Transportation, Utah Transit Authority, Davis County School District, Utah Highway Patrol, and local law enforcement.

These collaborations ensured efficient shuttle services and parking for the large number of attendees. In addition, responders adeptly handled several medical emergencies due to the 90-degree heat over the weekend, ensuring the safety and well-being of the crowd.

Volunteers from the base and local communities were key in managing parking and traffic, coordinating food vendors, and supporting the performers and static displays. Base organization volunteers also helped clean the airfield each day, preparing it for operations on Monday.

In total, approximately 1,000 volunteers supported the show.

Flynn said this year’s show also couldn’t have been accomplished without the support of the community, with a substantial portion of the show funded by the state of Utah and additional sponsors through the Utah Air Show Foundation, which played a significant role in funding the event.

“The Hill Air Show stands as one of the premier military air displays in the country, and this complimentary event attracts thousands of guests each year,” said Kevin Ireland, executive director of the Utah Air Show Foundation. “The show generates an estimated $50 million in economic impact over the two-day show.”

Col. Jeffrey Holland, 75th Air Base Wing commander, thanked all volunteers for their efforts.

“A huge thank you to all the volunteers, both on and off base, who contributed to making this year’s air show a triumph,” Holland said. “The event would not have been possible without your support. The cities around the base, law enforcement, emergency responders, and medical personnel – we are all grateful for your dedication to this event.”

“The 2024 Hill Air Show was a display of community and military collaboration, and the base looks forward to continuing this tradition in the years to come,” he added.
