HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah – Emergency response personnel from Hill AFB and the surrounding communities came together April 27 to test their ability to jointly respond to a major accident.

The exercise was held on Hill AFB in preparation for the Warriors Over the Wasatch Air and Space Show coming up June 25-26.

The exercise revolved around a simulated aircraft mishap.

Emergency response activities involved nearly 30 emergency response agencies, including local hospitals, fire departments, law enforcement and emergency operation centers.

Lt. Col. Daniel Long, 775 CES commander said the scenario of an aircraft going down during the air show is incredibly unlikely but that‘s how to stay ready for any situation.

“This is our exercise to ensure from the emergency response side that we are ready to go if in the unlikely situation that something goes wrong in the air show,” he said. “We ensure that we can take care of people on base, both our Airmen and the visitors, as well as the installation itself.”

Due to safety concerns associated with the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 air show was cancelled. Hill AFB held its last air show in June 2018. Hundreds of thousands of people attended what has become the largest single event in the state of Utah.
