TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Veterans Day is a time to honor American veterans of all wars. Originally known as Armistice Day to commemorate the signing of the armistice that ended World War I, it wasn’t until 1954 that the holiday became Veterans Day.
From those who made daily sacrifices to those who fought and died, the men and women of our Armed Forces deserve our respect and gratitude. They answered a call to service for love of country and fellow Americans.
Many veterans bear the scars of battle and many suffer invisible wounds the rest of us could not understand.
We salute with pride our warfighters past and present who made the commitment to uphold the constitution and defend our nation from all enemies.
I ask that you join me in thanking generations of veterans for their service and sacrifice this Veterans Day.
I’m proud to serve alongside each of you. Thank you all for your service.
Have a safe and wonderful Veterans Day.
