Curbside pharmacy service starts March 23 to combat coronavirus

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- In order to comply with “social distancing” recommendations and to increase efforts to mitigate further spread of the novel coronavirus, the 75th Medical Group Satellite Pharmacy will be providing curbside services starting Monday, March 23, in front of the Base Exchange shopping center until further notice.

“These changes and precautions are to protect our staff and our patient population,” said Maj. Emily Dietrich, Pharmacy flight commander. “We would like to extend a thank you to our patients for allowing us to take care of you through these challenges.”

Here’s how it works:

When beneficiaries arrive at the Base Exchange parking lot, pharmacy personnel will already be outside to deliver ready‐to‐dispense prescriptions to patients while they wait in their cars curbside. Hardcopy prescriptions will also be dropped off curbside.

Access curbside pickup using one of the two Exchange parking lot entrances located off of E Avenue just past the AAFES shoppette/class six. Vehicles will move through one of two drive-thru lines depending on the number of customers. If the car line is short, a “blue path” will be used. During peak hours, a longer “yellow path” (see map) will be used.

People will not be able to use the AAFES shoppette/class six parking lot entrance to access the drive‐thru line, because it is not an approved thoroughfare.

Dietrich said acute medications will be processed for same day pickup, with an approximate two‐hour turnaround.

Acute medications include: antibiotics, rescue inhalers, emergency medications, and/or any new medications for seizure, depression, and/or asthma. Maintenance medications will be processed for next business day pick‐up.

“We encourage patients to request electronic prescriptions from your providers and call a pharmacy representative at 801-777-0418 so that we can start processing your prescriptions and provide you a pickup time,” Dietrich said. “We are available by phone Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to activate prescriptions and to answer questions.”
