Hill AFB Commissary employee receives customer service recognition

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah --
Hill Commissary employee Jo Lee was recognized by base leadership for outstanding customer service last month. Lee, a Layton resident, received the recognition for her extraordinary assistance to a commissary customer.
Katie Miller, 89, was shopping at the store in April. However, when she returned to her vehicle with her groceries, she couldn’t get it to start. Miller inquired at the commissary customer service desk if someone would assist her and, according to Miller, Lee was quick to help.
After following Miller to her car, she determined the vehicle was out of gas. Lee decided to go to the base service station and purchase a gas can and fuel. After filling the tank, Lee then returned with Miller to the station to top the vehicle off “on her own dime.”
Miller’s son, Anthony, sent a thank you letter to Bruno Ortiz, Hill's Commissary store director, to recognize Lee for the help she provided his mother.
Anthony said hearing his mother cry with appreciation following the event really took him back.
“I trust you will let Jo Lee know we really appreciate her kindness that day,” he said. “Thank you for hiring fabulous personnel who truly care about people. I am grateful.”
Ortiz said in his two years assigned to the Hill Commissary, he has come to know Lee’s kindness.
“She is a very caring person, always putting her coworkers and customers first,” Ortiz said. “On numerous occasions, she has helped customers when they accidently locked their keys in their car and she always finds a way to assist them.
“She is an extraordinary person and we are very lucky to have her on our team,” he continued.
The Hill Commissary employs approximately 70 people. The store is open from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Sunday.
