  • Happy birthday, U.S. Air Force!

The 18th of September marks 71 years since the U.S. Air Force became an independent armed service. Each year, our Air Force birthday provides an opportunity for us to reflect on our storied heritage. This includes honoring the men and women who serve today, as well as the Airmen who served before us.

Since early recorded history, warring tribes often carried banners or flags marked with emblems to represent factions and motivate their warriors to fight for the cause. It is to this historical tradition that we can trace the evolution of military emblems and patches. As the Air Force begins transitioning from the current Airman Battle Uniform to the Operational Camouflage Pattern, there is a renewed focus on emblems and patches across Air Force units, as Airmen will once again be able to wear unit patches on their sleeves, which had been phased out when the ABU was deployed in 2007.

During this time, it is not uncommon to reunite with old friends, classmates, and even former co-workers. However, in this

  • Highlighting the importance of diversity in today’s Air Force

  • Fight the resolution failure trend: “Just show up!"

It’s early morning and as I drive on to base, I’m fully prepared to be annoyed. I’m ready to roll my eyes and mutter under my breath — about the gym’s jam-packed parking lot, the extra bodies in the locker room, and the crowded cardio and weight equipment areas. It’s the predictability of it all that triggers my fitness sarcasm. Every year, everyone makes the same ambitious New Year’s resolutions to get in the best shape of their lives, and everyone decides to start at exactly the same time.
