Community members and business leaders were appointed as Team Hill Honorary Commanders during a special induction ceremony here Jan. 23.

As Honorary Commanders, leaders work with Air Force and civilian personnel to gain insight into base operations. As a result, the program binds community relations between Hill Air Force Base and the surrounding communities. They serve for two years and participate in events such as base tours, changes of command, retirement ceremonies and holiday events.

A total of 45 civic and business leaders comprise the full complement of Honorary Commanders assigned to the installation. This is the first year all of Hill's wing commanders have come together to create a Team Hill Honorary Commander program.

Some units, like the 388th and 419th Fighter Wings, have enjoyed a rich history of the program, which fosters community support for the Air Force and fighter wings.

"The program's overall objective is for our honorary commanders to gain first-hand insight of the important work our Airmen do every day and to gain a better understanding of the diverse Hill Air Force Base missions," said Col. Kathryn Kolbe, 75th Air Base Wing and installation commander, during her opening remarks. "As a result of the relationships you will build with our Airmen and leaders, we hope you will be able to share the Air Force story throughout the communities in which you live."

Following Kolbe's remarks, the military and Honorary Commanders embarked on an interactive tour of the Ogden Air Logistics Complex, the 388th and 419th Fighter Wings and the 75th ABW.

Activities included touring F-16 and C-130 depot maintenance, seeing an F-16 static display and visiting Hill's air traffic control tower.
