HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- A pedestrian-only gate recently opened just north of the West Gate. The turnstile gate allows a single pedestrian to enter the installation based on a positive electronic read of the person's ID card combined with a positive vascular scan of the back of their hand. A vascular scan reads the blood vessel pattern in the back of a person's hand using infrared light, a safe and tamper-proof method of identification.

Base employees can register to use the pedestrian-only entry point at the West Gate Visitor Center from 8:30-11 a.m. on Wednesdays. Users will be required to register their ID by providing the 75th Security Forces Squadron with some basic demographic information and a vascular scan of their hand prior to using the gate.
