Hill AFB leadership hosted an Honorary Commander Induction Ceremony here Feb. 2. Twenty-eight new honorary commanders were inducted into the two-year program.

The program pairs leaders with specific units on base, and aims to foster supportive community relationships, and increase military involvement in civic endeavors and organizations.

During the two-year term, each honorary commander will be invited to various events, which allows them to meet many installation leaders and Airmen, and witness firsthand their missions and daily operations.

"Our hope is after two years of serving as an honorary commander, you'll be able to share the Air Force story throughout the communities in which you live," Jolly said, during his opening remarks for the induction ceremony.

Participants are selected based on their position or influence in the community and their ability to have a positive impact on public support for the U.S. Air Force and Hill AFB missions.

"We strongly encourage all of you to participate in activities together both on the base and in the community.  There is much to be learned from each other's personal and professional experiences," Jolly said.

The Honorary Commander Program serves as an opportunity to provide one-on-one opportunities to inform and educate local community leaders about the missions of the U.S. Air Force, Hill AFB and to encourage dialogue between the base and community concerning issues of importance between each respective community.
