The Air Force Sergeants Association is known to many for its work communicating with military leaders and elected officials on issues important to enlisted Airmen and their families.

They also work hard to improve the well-being of Airmen and their families here.

AFSA Chapter 1163 members demonstrated this commitment Wednesday by hosting a potluck dinner for more than 80 Air Force family members at the Hill AFB chapel.

Chapter members, aided by Airman Leadership School Class 2016-D, prepared tables filled with food and drinks and served their honored guests, whose Airmen spouses and parents are currently deployed.  Food donations were provided by the ALS students and the AFSA Chapter 1163 executive council.

"Being at home while a military member is away is a difficult task in itself and the lives of the remaining family members don't stop," said Tech. Sgt. Felipe Mendoza, Chapter 1163 vice president. "This is one way we can try and provide a meal and a stress-free evening."

A face painter and balloon sculptor entertained the children while parents relaxed and met fellow spouses enduring similar separations from loved ones.

Lisa Bradbury, who attended the dinner with her children Stephen and Raegan, said the dinner meant a lot to her.

"This dinner provides a nice break from having to cook and clean," she said. "It'll be nice to just eat, go home, and have an hour to myself."

Mendoza, who noted that AFSA may host similar events in the future, thanked the more than 30 Total Force Airmen from ALS. He also thanked family members for their sacrifices.

"[Without the] unyielding support of family members, we could not adequately serve our country," he said.
