Officials announced last month the temporary closure of the installation's South Gate through May 15. The closure will allow contractors to replace speed tables at the gate and to install wedge barriers.

In order to speed up the construction process, the intersection just inside the gate where Balmer crosses South Gate Avenue will be closed at 12:01 a.m. April 8 through May 15. The intersection was open to east- and westbound traffic during the first few weeks of the project.

Motorists using the East Gate during this time will need to travel around the airfield to Wardleigh to access the rest of the base. A temporary parking area will be established at the motorcycle training area.

Throughout the construction project, the East Gate and Southwest Gate are open for traffic during the day and the Roy Gate and West Gate is open 24/7. Additionally, the base's Visitor Center has been temporarily relocated to the West Gate.
