JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. -- The 440th Supply Chain Operations Squadron is on a mission to revolutionize Air Force logistics, and their latest innovation is a testament to that commitment. Embracing Air Force Materiel Command’s push to “Revolutionize our Processes,” the squadron has developed a next-generation dashboard within the Basing & Logistics Analytics Data Environment, or BLADE, system. This tool provides an unprecedented level of visibility into the status of support equipment across the entire Department of the Air Force.
Gone are the days of piecing together information from disparate sources. Leveraging the Qlik business intelligence engine, the major command Support Equipment Dashboard, integrates data from key systems like the Integrated Logistics System (ILS-S)- Supply, Defense Property Accountability System (DPAS), Air Force Interchangeability and Substitutability Data File (D043), SharePoint, and custom Excel tables. This gives a clear, real-time view of critical support equipment data, enabling proactive and informed decision-making.
The origin of this dashboard can be traced back to the 440th SCOS Equipment Warfighter Support Visits, initially created to track the progress of correcting malpositioned assets. What started as basic PowerPoint slides has since evolved into an advanced dashboard, offering near-real-time analytics.
Today, the dashboard provides a dynamic and interactive platform, replacing static numbers with critical overage and shortage data. This includes legacy weapons, Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation assets, and accounts with authorizations over and below their required levels. By incorporating these key performance indicators, the dashboard has become a resource for identifying installations in need of targeted support.
“This dashboard goes beyond simply presenting data,” said Jason Brown, Equipment Readiness Flight Chief. “It's about taking a deep dive into the analytics and translating them into clear, actionable decision-enabling data. We're giving our leaders the information they need, in a way they can readily use, to make strategic decisions directly impacting the readiness of our Airmen.”
The 440th SCOS dashboard has had a transformative impact. In 2024, it enabled a reduction of over 67,000 equipment overages. Additionally, the dashboard identified a critical funding gap associated with the transportation of legacy weapons. With this information, the 440th SCOS successfully secured $4 million to facilitate the redistribution of these essential assets back to the depot.
“We finally have tools that help us analyze thousands of data elements, which in turn helps us accelerate our understanding of challenges the Air Force faces and enables us in developing courses of action to fix,” said Lt. Col. Greg Swendsen, 440th SCOS commander. “Our enterprise solution to resolve a multi-year legacy weapons issue is a testament to the power of digital tools now at our fingertips and furthers our mission to instill a digital-first culture across the support equipment community.”
The evolution doesn't end there. The 440th SCOS Digital Campaign vision is to ‘Accelerate & Transform Digital Capabilities to Inform, Influence, and Enhance the Support Equipment Community.’ The T.I.T.A.N.S. cell executes the Digital Campaign and is dedicated to ongoing improvement, continuously refining and enhancing the digital capabilities.
