The scent of freshly baked cookies filled the room as volunteers sorted, wrapped, and boxed holiday treats during the Hill AFB holiday cookie drive at The Landing Dec. 16.

This annual tradition is a festive event where organized volunteers representing 388th Fighter Wing, 75th Air Base Wing and many other units on base, come together to spread holiday cheer and support Airman, many of whom are unable to share the holidays with family and friends.

Each year, holiday cookies and candy packages are provided by the Hill AFB community and local sponsors for distribution to the Airmen living in the dormitories.

“The Hill AFB community and families stepped up in a big way, contributing 2,500 homemade cookies and treats, ensuring the holiday spirit and sentiment is shared by all Airmen,” said Cassandra Orzechowski, a volunteer representing the 388th FW and this year’s cookie drive organizer.

This year, local businesses and partners included Sweets Candy Co., Hershey’s Factory, FedEx, Rise Bakery, and Loft House (formerly Tree House), who donated 3,600 cookies, candy canes, candy bars, and saltwater taffy. In addition, Walmart and Target contributed boxes, bows, ribbons, and additional volunteers.
