Maj. Gen. Charles Dunlap, Jr., the Deputy Judge Advocate General of the USAF, recently visited Hill AFB for a Uniform Code of Military Justice Article 6 inspection at the Ogden Air Logistics Center Legal Office.

Accompanying General Dunlap was Chief Master Sergeant Avis Dillard-Bullock, the Senior Paralegal Advisor to the judge advocate general. Also accompanying the general were Col. Barr Yonker, Air Force Materiel Command deputy SJA and Chief Master Sergeant Jack Craft, AFMC command paralegal.

The Article 6 inspection is a requirement under the UCMJ for TJAG to visit legal offices and evaluate the quality of their military justice program. During General Dunlap's visit, the legal office provided him comprehensive briefing on all JA programs, including military justice.

The office was proud to report that Hill Air Force Base leads all AFMC bases in efficiently processing both general courts-martial and Articles 15.

JA also reported on its recently revised Federal Magistrate program and provided General Dunlap a quote from a Federal Magistrate Judge, "This is the best magistrate program I've seen."

General Dunlap also visited the Area Defense Counsel's office and received a first hand briefing from Capt. Michael Hopkins and Master Sgt. Nicole Lindsey-Nanni on the status of the Hill's military justice defense program.

Both General Dunlap and Chief Dillard-Bullock gave JA the highest kudos and praise for its justice program. Moreover, both the general and chief said "Hill is doing it better than most Air Force bases."

Another highlight of the Article 6 inspection included a commanders and first sergeants' luncheon at Club Hill.

He was able to engage numerous commanders and first sergeants on military justice and other matters affecting the practice of law in the Air Force. In particular, he commented on the JAG Corps 21st Century Vision and the changes that have taken place thus far.

These changes included the new household goods claims service center at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, and the elimination of judicial circuits around the world. Gen Dunlap also discussed the future of the JAG Corps.

The Article 6 inspection ended with a dinner at the Air Force Museum hosted by Scott Wirz and his staff of volunteers. General Dunlap gave high kudos to Hill Services and the Hill AFB Museum staff for their efforts.
