More than 230 Hill Air Force Base Supply, Storage and Distribution employees are transferring to become Defense Logistics Agency employees.

On Feb. 1, Brig. Gen. Art Cameron, 309th Maintenance Wing commander, opened a town hall meeting by telling the crowd Hill AFB's DLA transition comes as a Base Realignment and Closure Commission 2005 initiative.

According to BRAC 2005, which was signed into law Sept. 5, 2005, bases must consolidate "the supply, storage and distribution functions and associated inventories," and transfer those functions to DLA. Effective April 13, 231 employees from the 709th Maintenance Support Squadron currently in supply, storage and distribution jobs, will become DLA employees. According to the general, employees do have additional employment options if they choose not to become DLA employees.

During his presentation, General Cameron discussed the available personnel options, including accepting and transferring to DLA; retiring if eligible; accepting a different Air Force position; or separating. He encouraged the employees to choose the best option for their careers.

Following General Cameron, Brig. Gen. Andy Busch, Defense Supply Center Richmond commander, took the stage and told the audience that the transition's catch phrase is "As is, where is." The phrase was meant to show that the outstanding service will continue one the functions and personnel transfer to DLA.

"This is not about personnel reduction; it's about inventory efficiency," said General Busch. "This will be a smooth transition with the current level of support to OO-ALC. We will bring 230 of you into DLA and make you feel welcome."

Additional speakers, including benefits and human resources professionals, addressed concerns following the generals' presentations. Each opened and closed with telling the audience that the transition would be seamless.
