The Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots has come to Hill Air Force Base to conduct toy collection and distribution through Dec. 18.

The campaign, which began in October, asks for caring Americans to drop off new, unwrapped toys at collection sites located at around base.

The toys are then picked up and sorted in a central warehouse to be distributed to children in need by the local Toys for Tots Coordinators.

Marines, local welfare agencies and churches will distribute the toys Dec. 21 to 24.

"We cover approximately 19,000 square miles in northern and eastern Utah, southeast Idaho and western Wyoming," said Ben Setter, Marine Corps League detachment 1159. "The Ogden Marine Corps League Detachment has been the local community organization for the last four years, during which time the number of children we have helped has increased 40 percent."

Although, with recent economic conditions, the Marines fear that they might not reach their goal of serving 10,000 children this year.

"If we can get support from the folks at Hill, we might meet this challenge and hopefully exceed our goal of 10,000 and reach 11,000 children," said Mr. Setter.

The Toys for Tots foundation has combined with the Combined Federal Campaign in an effort to reach even more children.

Drop-off locations and donation information can be found on the official website at www.toysfortots.org.
