Holiday Card Lane to deliver Hill cheer again Published Nov. 15, 2010 By Catherine McNally Hilltop Times staff HILL AIR FORCE BASE -- Team Hill squadrons and organizations are encouraged to participate in this year's Holiday Card Lane, sponsored by the 75th Force Support Squadron. The card lane, which is a display of holiday- or organization-themed giant cards along the divider on Southgate Avenue, is open to all Hill squadrons and organizations with prizes awarded to the first, second and third place winners. "We've been doing (the Holiday Card Lane) at Hill for about 10 years now," Edie Messina, 75th FSS marketing specialist, said. The event is a big morale booster for the base, she added. Along with a morale boost, the event gives squadrons and organizations a chance to display their pride. The cards, which can be displayed starting Nov. 26, will be seen when entering or exiting the base via the South Gate. Last year, Southgate Avenue hosted about 25 different cards, Messina said. Last year's card themes ranged from Santa to Christmas trees and even squadron logos. The 75th FSS encourages all who participates to get creative, as all the cards will be judged on originality, squadron or organization representation and technical aspect. The top three cards chosen will be the winners of "FSS Bucks", which will allow the squadrons or organizations to treat themselves to a bowling party, picnic or other event of choice. The cards must be made of plywood and must be either 4' by 4', 4' by 6' or 4' by 8' in size, taking up no more than a 10-foot wide area. The cards and any mounted items must be securely anchored and paint and decorations must also be waterproof and weather resistant. N electric decorations are permitted. The backside of each card should list the entire organization address, point of contact and phone number. Cards must be removed from Southgate Avenue by close of business on Jan. 3, 2011. To register for the Holiday Card Lane, e-mail your name, organization and phone number to 75fss.fsk@hill.af.mil . You must register to be in the judging. "(Participants) need to register their entire organization name," Messina stressed. "If they don't put the full organization office symbol, it's really hard to contact them."
