309th MXW to get new leader

Col. Allan Day, commander of the 22nd Maintenance Group at McConnell Air Force Base, Kan., will take over leadership of the 309th Maintenance Wing at Hill AFB in July.

Sue Dryden, 309th MXW director since September 2010, has been selected for reassignment as Deputy Director of Logistics, Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, Installations and Mission Support, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C.

The change of command ceremony will be July 5 at 1 p.m. in Building 237.

At McConnell, Day directed more than 1,000 active duty, civilian and Air Reserve Technician Airmen performing maintenance on the KC-135 tanker.

He began his Air Force career in 1989 as a materials research engineer at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio. He has served in various aircraft maintenance positions in United States Central Command, Air Combat Command and Air Mobility Command.

Day has a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry with an Arabic language minor from the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Masters' degrees in Materials Science and Engineering, National Security and Strategic Studies. He holds both senior aircraft maintenance and senior acquisition badges along with a basic parachute rating and is a Level III certified Program Manager. He and his wife, Barbara, have six children.

Dryden, a member of the Senior Executive Service, served on active-duty in the Air Force and was first assigned as a jet engine mechanic at Hahn Air Base, West Germany, and later cross-trained into the manpower management field. She began her civil service career at Robins AFB, Ga., in 1983 and gained logistics experience as an F-15 jet engine mechanic; C-141 budget chief; Plans and Programs section chief; and deputy chief, C-5 Production Division. Dryden also served as deputy chief of the F-15 Production Division and managed worldwide depot maintenance activities for the F-15 fleet.

In 2002, Dryden was assigned to Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, as Deputy Chief of the Depot Maintenance Division. She led a turnaround by driving process improvements across all three air logistics centers. As chief of Logistics, Fighter Attack Wing, she integrated critical logistics functions across A-10, F-15, F-16 and F-35 aircraft. Dryden has also served as director of the 878th Aeronautical Systems Group, Aeronautical Systems Center, leading F-22 sustainment activities. In June 2009, she came to the Ogden ALC as deputy director of the 309 MXW. She is the first civilian to lead the maintenance wing since it was stood up in 2005.
