Air Force Materiel Command's new vice commander is optimistic about the command's future, despite the fiscal challenges facing the Air Force and Department of Defense.

During his first visit here as AFMC vice commander October 24, Lt. Gen. C.D. Moore II said although reducing defense spending is a necessary part of the solution to address the nation's budget crisis, what AFMC brings to the fight remains critical to our national security; from research and development to test, acquisition, sustainment and support to nuclear assets.

"We have a responsibility to ensure America and the U.S. taxpayers get the maximum value out of every dollar invested," he said. "And the Ogden Air Logistics Center plays a critical role in providing the essential airpower capability the nation requires."

During the visit the general said he gained an appreciation for many of the units at Hill AFB, including the 309th Maintenance Group reentry vehicle/system facility, the 581st Missile Maintenance Squadron Transporter Erector Repair facility, the 581st MMXS Missile Buildup facility and the F-22, F-16, A-10 and C-130 repair facilities.

Throughout his visit to Hill Air Force Base, Moore expressed his admiration for the AFMC workforce.

"AFMC has some of the most dedicated, professional employees in the Air Force," he said. "I'm impressed by the skill and dedication of the AFMC work force, and I'm bullish on their ability to succeed, no matter what challenges come our way."

Moore assumed his new position Oct. 3 following confirmation by the U.S. Senate of his promotion and appointment.
