CFC thanks volunteers Published Dec. 16, 2011 By Anne Morrison Hilltop Times staff HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- "Thank you" was the theme of the Combined Federal Campaign breakfast held the morning of Dec. 5. In addition to thanking all the key workers for the campaign, the campaign's chairwoman, Peggy Facer, implemented the first Early Bird Award to the Team Hill organization that achievedits giving goal by Oct. 26. The campaign raked in close to $4,000 more than the previous year, totaling $1,138,775. Pledges will begin to go out to charities in January, with more than 1,000 charities participating in the campaign. "Sometimes it's tempting to be a little cynical and say we can't end hunger, homelessness or disease," said Bruce Jacobs, Intermountain CFC director. "But we can feed a family, shelter a person, treat a disease. And with your contributions, we do just that." Team Hill's Army and Air Force Exchange Services organization was the first Early Bird Awardwinner and will hold the award for a year before the next CFC begins. AAFES had their name engraved on a small plate and put on a plaque which will be handed off to the award's winner next year. AAFES wasn't the only early bird though. The OO-ALC personnel directorate, 372nd Recruiting Group, the Defense Logistics Agency, and the Electronics Systems Center PK Lab all achieved their financial goals by Oct. 26. The AAFES, however, was determined the winner after showing the greatest increase in their participation rate from the previous year. Marilee Gilbert from Primary Children's Medical Center was the year's keynote speaker as her organization received the most donations from Hill's federal employees. "I feel the full weight to say thank you, not just for the children and families at Primary Children's Care, but on behalf of all charities that have been helped," said Gilbert. This year, the campaign broke the one-week pledge giving record with $279,000 in CFC pledging for the week coinciding with the Oct. 26 Early Bird cut-off. At the end of the breakfast, Facer expressed "heartfelt gratitude to those who made it happen." She said despite the demands of the position, she would do it again in a heartbeat, adding "It's very gratifying knowing that all your efforts are in support of such a worthy cause ." Next year, Scott Jacobs, the acting vice chair, will take on the roll of chair for Team Hill's campaign.
