Hill to participate in prescription drug take-back event on Saturday Published April 26, 2013 By Mary Lou Gorny Hilltop Times Editor HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- Maj. David Jarnot, 75th Medical Group Pharmacy flight commander, said, "(Saturday's event) is an excellent way for the community to dispose of potential hazardous medication that may be in households." The medical group representative emphasized the importance of the effort, set for April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Base Exchange and the Commissary as he talked about the volunteer effort manning the sites. Approximately 40 volunteers will participate, including volunteers standing at the gates to distribute information reminding Team Hill of the opportunity to get rid of their old and unneeded medications through this method. A team of volunteers will also go house to house to give out information on the drug "take-back" event. The 75th Security Forces Squadron and DEA will also supply volunteers to assist with the mandatory procedures necessary. According to event organizers, the drug take-back addresses public health and safety issues due to potential misuse and the hazards of disposing of drugs improperly. Off base sites will also be available that day with similar hours of from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They include the following Smith's sites: 1170 E. Gentile in Layton; 951 W. 1700 South in Syracuse; 555 S. 200 West and 2399 S. Main St. in Bountiful; 1316 N. Highway 89 in Farmington, 2353 N. Main Street in Sunset. The Clinton Macey's at 2062 W. 1800 North will also host a take-back site, at the same date and time. Some police departments have permanent drug take-back bins in their lobbies.
