All the right moves at Hill chess event

The 2013 Hill AFB Chess Championship was held June 8 at The Landing.

The results were as follows:

Division one, military competition - Senior Airman Joe Martinez won the title by scoring two wins and one loss and is the 2013 Hill AFB Active Duty Chess Champion. Martinez is assigned to the 388th Component Maintenance Squadron.

Division two, civilian competition: Scott Liddell won the title by scoring three wins and no losses, and is the 2013 Non-active Duty Chess Champion. Liddell is retired from the Navy and is very active in the local chess community.

Second place was shared between, Tim Lane, retired Air Force and Donnie Davis, retired Air Force. Kim Barney, retired school teacher, served as the tournament director.

Barney has been actively involved in chess as a player and served as tournament director for over forty years. Hank Beuning, Hill AFB Chess Club secretary, presented trophies and prizes to the winners.
