HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- Meet Malena Leatham, an inspiring member of the 309th Commodities Maintenance Group (CMXG), whose journey through diverse career paths in security and government reflects a remarkable commitment to personal and professional growth.
With more than 20 years in security, initially balancing it part-time to support her studies, Malena has skillfully combined her work in this area with progressively responsible roles. Before joining the Ogden Air Logistics Complex 18 months ago, she served as an IRS contact representative and management assistant, eventually becoming a management analyst. In her current role, she works within the director's office, managing tasks across squadrons and supporting the front office, a role that highlights her adaptability and dedication.
Malena collaborates closely with executives she admires, absorbing valuable insights on effective management and leadership. Initially unsure about fitting into the director's office, her experiences have taught her to embrace challenges as opportunities for learning and growth, a lesson she treasures deeply. Malena's educational journey reflects her resilience and determination. Starting with joining the workforce at a young age and earning her GED, she overcame unique challenges. Progressing from early trials to pursuing a master's degree, her achievement serves as an inspiring example for her blended family of five children, demonstrating the importance of perseverance and lifelong learning.
A Utah native through and through, Malena has explored nearly every national and state park in the state, embodying a passion for hiking and the great outdoors. Her interests also extend to family game nights, fostering closeness and bonding as they play strategic games like "Magic the Gathering" together. Looking ahead, Malena is focused on creating a legacy of authenticity and perseverance for her children. She is driven by the belief that it is never too late to change one's path, with education and continuous learning central themes in her life. Her daily motivation is fueled by the challenges she encounters, the connections she makes, and the joy of continuous learning.
Malena holds a special reverence for the profound significance of her role, deeply rooted in her memories of her late father, who passed away when she was just eight years old. One of the most treasured moments from her childhood is when her father brought her and her siblings to Hill Air Force Base to witness the awe-inspiring sight of planes soaring against the majestic backdrop of the mountains, instilling in her a deep sense of patriotism and admiration for those who serve. While tinged with a touch of bittersweetness, this memory serves as a constant source of motivation, guiding her footsteps as she traverses the same grounds where her father once served, carrying his legacy forward with pride. This connection fuels her commitment to her role, ensuring that each day at the OO-ALC is a tribute to her past and a step towards her future growth.
Join us in applauding Malena Leatham for her incredible resilience and contributions. She inspires us all to pursue our passions and face challenges with courage and determination.
