HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- 75th Security Forces Squadron held a Cookies with Santa social Dec. 12 to spread holiday cheer to the unit’s Defenders and their families.

The event was arranged by key spouses and was complete with cookies and hot chocolate, as well as a visit by Santa Claus.

“It’s been difficult providing a COVID-safe and friendly environment, while also trying to connect all of our families,” said Abby Brumbeloe, 75 SFS Key Spouse. “But, we are adapting to our new environment while trying as much as possible, to involve each and every active-duty Airman and family member.”

Key spouses are commander-appointed volunteers who serve to increase resiliency and unit cohesion amongst military members and their families.

“Our unit has been struggling to find new ways to bring families together, because traditional events that key spouses typically arrange, now must be modified greatly,” said Maj. Doug Dinkins, 75th SFS commander.

Instituting a “one family at a time” relay system to mitigate concerns with COVID-19, families took turns visiting and taking pictures with Santa.

“Considerations for COVID and awareness of people numbers in the building at one time, were very important,” said Trish Dinkins, 75th SFS Key Spouse. “We were very intentional during this event, wearing masks and gloves while ensuring every food item was packaged and safe, as well as the one family at a time visits with Santa.”

“This was an amazing idea by our key spouses, who were able to adapt and work within the rules, while still giving something back to our families,” said Dinkins. “I’m extremely proud of all the behind the scenes work they do for our unit.

“We were able to put on an event that was highly successful, safe, and comfortable, making our unit stronger and closer because of them,” he said.
