Editor's Note: The “Team Hill Frontlines" series is a recurring feature that puts the spotlight on some of the civilian and military Airmen on the "frontlines" supporting our mission, people and families during the COVID-19 crisis.

Lance Mendelson works in the 75th Civil Engineer Group as an IT system specialist. He is responsible for enforcing cybersecurity guidance over all civil engineer IT systems, both hardware and software, as well as providing guidance pertaining to information assurance, information security, and communications security.  He is from Ontario, California, and his hobbies include setting up home servers and tinkering with small electronics.

Lance’s experience working on the COVID-19 frontlines:

"The COVID situation presented my colleague and me with several challenges and obstacles to overcome.  We needed to be as proactive as possible in gathering information on, and thoroughly testing, VPN and commercial telework solutions prior to documenting and disseminating guidance as far and wide as we could.  Thanks to teamwork and collaboration, we were able to significantly reduce telework-related issues thanks to clearly documented guidance and a few user-friendly PowerShell scripts.  All of which allowed us to provide closer support to the mission itself, instead of having to focus too much time on troubleshooting the teleworking environment for the Group we support during this unprecedented event.”

Lance, Team Hill thanks you for your service! We appreciate you!
