HAFB kicks off Air Force Assistance Fund campaign

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- The annual Air Force Assistance Fund campaign is just around the corner and will be held March 26 through May 4.
This year’s goal for Hill AFB is $63,338 and contributions will directly benefit Air Force Airmen, their families and retirees.
A kick-off event will be held at 7:30 a.m. March 26 at the Airman Family Readiness Center located in building 150. All Hill AFB personnel are welcome to attend.
“The AFAF contributes to four foundations and organizations that greatly benefit the entire Air Force family as a whole,” said 2d Lt Edgar Villaruel, this year’s assistant AFAF project officer for Hill AFB.
The affiliates are:
• The Air Force Aid Society supports Airmen and their families with emergency monetary relief in times of need for anything from groceries and utility bills to scholastic grants for Airmen furthering their education.
• The Lemay Foundation assists widows of officer and enlisted Air Force retirees via financial aid to enable them to retain a dignified standard of living.
• The Air Force Villages Charitable Foundation is a San Antonio-based charity that provides care for retired officers and their spouses.
• The Air Force Enlisted Village is based in Florida near Eglin Air Force Base and Hurlburt Field, which provides care and living space for surviving spouses of retired enlisted Air Force members.
The target audience for donations are Air Force military personnel and retired military now working as Department of the Air Force civilians since they are easily contacted and may benefit from the services of the affiliated AFAF charities. Keyworkers may also accept unsolicited contributions from others, including civilian employees (non-military), retirees, sister-service military personnel and veterans.
There are two ways to contribute to the AFAF.
The first is through payroll deduction pay where the Defense Finance and Accounting Service automatically deducts monthly contributions from military or retiree pay, beginning June 1 of the campaign year for active duty military and July 1 for retirees.
The second is through a cash donation to include U.S. currency, personal checks, money orders, cashier’s checks or endorsed traveler’s checks. In addition, members may choose to give via credit card donation on an individual charity’s websites. However, these credit card donations will not count toward installation goals.
Senior Master Sergeant Chad Fry, the AFAF project officer for Hill AFB, said he’s excited to launch the 2018 campaign.
“The AFAF is the greatest charity an Airmen can donate to because it’s the one where the money donated goes directly to Airmen and their families in times of need,” Fry said. “This charity is another aspect of what makes the Air Force a family.”
