Hill AFB recertifies all fitness assessment courses Published Nov. 4, 2016 By 75th Air Base Wing Public Affairs HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- In early October, the Air Force directed a service-wide recertification of all installation 1.5-mile run and 2.0-kilometer walk courses by Oct. 31, 2016. The recertification requirement comes after the identification of course-length issues by local officials at Goodfellow and Hanscom Air Force Bases. Here, the indoor Bubble, indoor Warrior Fitness Center, and outdoor tracks were measured and recertified on Oct.13, 2016, by the 75th Civil Engineer Squadron. According to Col. Dana Pelletier, 75th Mission Support Group commander, the outdoor track measured exactly 1.5 miles for six laps, and the slope was measured and determined to be within two degrees per AFI 36-2905, Fitness Program. No corrections were necessary. The indoor tracks were measured and it was discovered both were slightly under the required length. The Bubble track was 80 feet short while the Warrior Fitness Center track was 65 feet short over a 1.5-mile distance. The markings on both indoor tracks have been corrected.“The bottom line is no participant was penalized by an incorrectly measured track,” said Col. Jennifer Hammerstedt, 75th Air Base Wing commander. All previous fitness test scores will remain unchanged and no further action is required. In addition to the recertification and to reduce the likelihood of a future occurrence, Headquarters Air Force strengthened guidance by requiring installations to measure and recertify their courses each time the installation commander changes or there are track or lane modifications. Furthermore, the Air Force Inspector General plans to include the fitness program as an Air Force Inspection Requirement on future wing unit effectiveness inspections.
