Hill Air Force Base offers space available flights for active-duty members, military retirees, dependents, and in some cases Guardsman and Reservists.

One scheduled flight leaves twice per month, with about 10 seats available destined to Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash., then on to McChord Air Force Base, Wash.

Potential passengers can call for information about upcoming flights. Due to security reasons, the amount of information available over the phone is limited. If people want more detailed information about flights, Tech. Sgt. Michael Green, 75th Logistics Readiness Squadron, suggests they show up at the terminal with their ID card.

"Space-A flights go to a variety of places," said Sergeant Green. "The McChord (AFB) flight is the most common, but we've had flights to Hawaii in the past. Typically, you can expect at least one Space-A flight each week."

The 75 LRS recently made Space-A travel more pleasant by completing a self-help project at the passenger terminal.

"We remodeled the whole terminal," said Staff Sgt. Daniel Duhaime, 75 LRS. "Air Terminal Operations Center volunteers, self-help supplies and manpower saved us about $3,500."

Sergeant Duhaime said all of the remodeling is an effort to rejuvenate the overlooked Space-A program at Hill AFB. The remodeling includes new chairs, new paint, new floor tile, trim work and a new emphasis on the Space-A program.

"A lot of people forget our Space-A program because the fighters are more often seen than some of the other aircraft coming and going," said Staff Sgt. Craig Shelton, 75 LRS.

"We want people to know we are available to take passengers as space permits."
In addition to being convenient, Space-A travel can save people money.

"I just flew to Hickam Air Force Base (Hawaii) from Hill AFB with my whole family, and wow, I saved a ton of money," said Staff Sgt. Richard McCall, 75 LRS.

Passenger service is available at Bldg. 904 (Wardleigh Road next to Bldg. 900) Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-4p.m. People can go there to get the latest information on what flights are available.
