  • It’s mosquito fogging time at Hill AFB

It’s that time of year as the temperatures increase, so does the mosquito population. At Hill Air Force Base, 75th Medical Group Public Health routinely monitors the population with mosquito trapping inspections at various locations around the base. When a trigger number of 70 female mosquitoes are trapped, Public Health informs the 75th Civil Engineer Squadron’s Pest Management Section to take action to mitigate the amount of mosquitoes in the area.
  • Childcare providers continue to support Hill families using special guidelines

Service members are critical to carrying out the Air Force mission, which is why the Child Development Center and School Age Care program at Hill Air Force Base have continued to stay open during the COVID-19 pandemic. The CDC and School Age Care program at the Youth Center are providing weekly care for children of personnel deemed missions-essential, which is generally tailored to their work schedules.
  • Staying safe from rabies

Rabies is a viral disease in mammals that infects the central nervous system and, if left untreated, attacks the brain and ultimately causes death. While any mammal could transmit the disease, the animals most likely to do so in the United States include bats, coyotes, foxes, raccoons, and skunks. If you, a family member, or a friend are bitten by an animal which may carry rabies, seek medical attention immediately.
  • What are these weird contraptions? Understanding the Medical Entomology Program

Mosquito surveillance season runs from May to October. The purpose of the surveillance is to monitor mosquito levels on base and collect specimens, which are sent to an entomology lab to be tested for disease.
  • Researchers study factors influencing Airmen’s tobacco use during technical training

The Air Force strictly regulates tobacco use during basic and technical training, but some Airmen still use it. Air Force researchers are working with the University of Virginia to uncover why Airmen use tobacco.
  • USAFSAM instructors bring experience to classroom, ready Airmen to battlefield

Deployed experience, subject expertise, and a passion to share lessons learned make instructors at the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine a vital part of medical readiness, equipping Airmen with the skills to be successful. Celebrating its 100th year, USAFSAM is the leading platform for education, training, and research in aerospace and operational medicine.
  • Medically ready to be mission ready

From periodic health assessments to regular dental exams, every Airman should know the importance of maintaining their Individual Medical Readiness (IMR) at all times.
