Rescue Squadrons at Hill AFB during the 1970s
Second Lieutenant Gene Vey, Detachment 4, 40th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Squadron (ARRS), posing in front of the open door of a rescue and recovery UH-1N helicopter at Hill AFB, Utah, in the late 1970s or early 1980s. Notice the patch on his left sleeve, which displays the lineage of the currently operating 40th Helicopter Squadron, stationed at Malmstrom AFB, Montana – which still flies the UH-1 Iroquois (and can at times be seen at the UTTR while the squadron’s crews conduct gunnery qualifications).
