Hill hosts weapons evaluation program Aug. 1-18

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- Residents surrounding Hill AFB may notice an increase in aircraft arrivals and departures Aug. 1-18 as the 86th Fighter Weapons Squadron conducts the U.S. Air Force air-to-ground exercise known as Combat Hammer and the 83rd Fighter Weapons Squadron conducts an air-to-air exercise known as Combat Archer.

During this period, four units will deploy to Hill to drop munitions and employ air to air missiles in realistic combat scenarios at the Utah Test and Training Range. With support from the 388th Fighter Wing and 75th Air Base Wing, 83rd and 86th Fighter Weapons Squadron Airmen will collect and analyze data on how these precision weapons perform and their suitability for use in combat.

Units participating in the Air Force Weapons System Evaluation Program for air-to-surface and air-to-air munitions, known as Combat Hammer and Combat Archer, include A-10s from Moody AFB, Ga., F-15Es from Royal Air Force Lakenheath, England, F-16s from Shaw AFB, S.C., and F-22s from Tyndall AFB, Fla.
