Heart Link provides spouses information, builds foundations

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah --  Who can help me with my job hunt when I arrive? How can I help my family better adjust to their new surroundings? Where can I get information about volunteer opportunities?

These questions were just a few of the topics discussed at the Heart Link event, held Nov. 7, in the Airman and Family Readiness Center. The event took place from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and included a light-lunch. Event organizer, Sam Child, states, "(The Heart Link program) is designed to help and explain some of the resources that are available to new spouses in the military. This is done by having briefers from various programs give basic information about the programs they represent."

Participants attended the free event and enjoyed a relaxed environment with gifts and games. A special highlight at the event occurred when participants received a Heart Link coin. Child hopes that from this event all the spouses "feel welcomed and appreciated."

Col. Frederick Thaden, 75th Air Base Wing vice commander, also stopped in to welcome the spouses to the base.

This event was not only an opportunity to learn a large amount of information and gather ideas for resources on and off base, but was also a starting place for new spouses to connect, mingle and build relationships with people at their new base. The Heart Link events are held quarterly, and the next event will take place in early February.
