Join the fight against suicide; townhall meetings set for February
HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- Suicide is a problem in our work centers and in our communities. Attempting to curtail the death toll is a responsibility we all share. While the Air Force has a robust suicide prevention program, deaths by suicide in theworkforce as well as family members continues.
In February, Hill AFB is partnering with Ogden and Layton to help reach out to all personnel and their family members in an effort to educate them about available resources and ask their assistance in preventing suicide. These meetings are intended for the teen and adult community.
Ogden Suicide Prevention Town Hall Meeting
When: Feb. 1 from 10 a.m. to noon
Where: Ogden High School
Layton Suicide Prevention Town Hall Meeting
When: Feb. 25 from 6:30-8 p.m.
Where: Northridge High School
The program will provide education about:
- Recognizing warning signs of suicide and how to intervene;
- A successful school-based program; and
- A story of home from a suicide survivor.
Additionally, there will be booths from installation and community helping resources with information to help families prevent suicide. Maj. Gen. H. Brent Baker Sr., Ogden Air Logistics Complex commander, Col. Kathryn Kolbe. 75th Air Base Wing and installation commander, and community leaders will speak on community-based efforts to prevent suicide.
This is a great opportunity to reach out to friends and family and encourage them to join the fight against suicide.
As an incentive for those families in Layton with a 9th-12th grader, attendance by a parent and student will make up a "U" on a student's report card.
