75th CEG employee named 2013 'energy champion'

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah --  Jonathan Ramras, a 75th Civil Engineer Group senior military construction program manager, Feb. 14 was awarded the Hill Air Force Base Energy Champion Award for 2013.

The award recognizes individuals and teams who display exceptional leadership and commitment to energy conservation throughout the year.

According to Ramras' award package, he took specific actions to ensure new facility construction activities at Hill AFB were being built to meet high federal energy efficient standards.

He also distinguished himself on a number of occasions by identifying, investigating and holding design engineers accountable for implementing energy efficiencies in a number of construction projects.

Some of the projects Ramras was instrumental in that led to the award included:
  • A 44 percent improvement in design lighting savings for the remodeled F-35 Fighter Squadron Operations offices in Bldg. 5. Also, the use of local motion sensors and day lighting meters along the window edges further enhanced savings.
  • He helped garner LEED Silver designation on the new F-22 Radar Cross Sectional Facility, Bldg. 674. This facility achieved an energy cost savings of 40 percent; storm water run-off was eliminated from pre-development conditions; and he reduced potable water consumption by 38 percent from calculated baseline designs.
The award package said Ramras' contributions are an outstanding example of excellent energy and environmental stewardship for the U.S. Air Force and Department of Defense.
