As part of the ongoing construction at the intersection of Highway 193 and South Gate Drive, the South Gate will be closed tonight (June 15) from midnight to 1 a.m.

The traffic signals at South Gate Drive and State Route 193 will also be replaced Friday (June 19) morning starting at 8 a.m. The process will take from 6-8 hours. Utah Highway Patrol will be directing traffic, but expect major delays.

The Southwest Gate will be open during this period to help alleviate traffic problems.

The construction is part of a larger effort by the Utah Department of Transportation to improve the traffic flow at the intersection and make improvements to the road surface of SR 193 from Hill Field road west to the intersection of State Street in Clearfield.

When that work is complete, SR 193 will feature two dedicated left-hand turn lanes into base, from both eastbound and westbound from 193. The westbound merge lane onto 193 from South Gate drive is being lengthened and widened to allow more traffic to flow off base during peak hours.

In addition to the traffic signals being upgraded, pedestrian ramps will be installed to comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act as part of the project, which is expected to be completed by the end of June.
