Hill Air Force Base and community leaders broke ground on a new $12.78 million crash rescue facility Nov. 10.

The facility, part of an ongoing modernization program, will support the newly arrived F-35A Lightning II and improve the response times of rescue personnel during emergency situations. The building will include additional larger bays to accommodate larger classes of rescue vehicles.

Northern Construction was awarded the contract by the Army Corps of Engineers under the Small Business Administration's Business Development Program.

The company will design and build the crash rescue facility, with construction scheduled to be completed in late 2016.
