HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- Workers from the 309th Electronics Maintenance Group recently gathered for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of Building 5’s Bay E, which recently underwent dramatic renovations and modernization.
The 21,000 square-foot facility houses maintenance and production support areas for the 523rd Electronics Maintenance Squadron. The squadron repairs critical test equipment and electronic and avionic components for weapons systems.
“When you look at where we are going as an enterprise, this is just the beginning,” said Daniel Posch, 309th EMXG. “We really appreciate all the hard work by so many people getting us where we need to be to support weapons systems for the warfighter.”
The $18 million project has been in the works for five years, including nearly three years of construction. Challenges to the project included delays caused by supply chain disruptions and an extensive asbestos abatement process.
In order to continue to deliver essential assets to the warfighter during construction, the 523rd EMXS temporarily relocated about 60 people from two production shops and the production support team, about 60 employees, and permanently moved a production shop with about 20 employees into a newly renovated area in another building.
