HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- Base workers looking for a way to reduce the impact of traveling to and from base should look at the Mass Transportation Benefit Program (MTBP).
The MTBP provides incentives to employees who commute so there will be little to no out-of-pocket expense. The MTBP provides partial reimbursement for mass transit commuting costs in order to reduce federal employees’ contribution to traffic congestion and air pollution and expand their commuting alternatives.
How does the MTBP Program Work?
Eligible participants receive a subsidy for their commuting expenses while using Qualified Means of Transportation (QMOT). MTBP commuter methods include: bus, FrontRunner, or authorized vanpool. The subsidy is issued to participants on a debit card which is used to “pay” for this benefit.
To participate in MTBP an applicant must be a Department of Defense federal employee, military, civilian or non-appropriated fund employee. You must commute at least 10 days each month to qualify. TDY and leave do not count towards commute times.
Before applying for the MTBP, you will need to see what QMOT fits your needs. If a vanpool, FrontRunner or UTA bus suits your needs, contact the UTA specialist to see what is available in your area.
Information can be found at https://www.utacommuter.com/uta2/Home/Home or contact UTA support specialist Luwanna Fitzgerald at 801-287 5358 or lfitzgerald@rideuta.com. Once you have located a vanpool, bus or FrontRunner you may begin the application process to receive mass transportation benefits. To apply, contact MTBP manager Kevin Douglas is also available to answer questions via email at hill.tip@us.af.mil.
NOTE: Your benefits could take 6-8 weeks to be applied to your TRANServe Debit Card.
