Green Machine Program to help spruce up base

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- Team Hill will implement "The Green Machine" on May 12 in conjunction with final events planned for Earth Day at Hill Air Force Base.

"Both from the environmental side and civil engineer side, this is a good way to clean up the base and really spruce it up," said Kent Nomura, of the 75th Civil Engineer Squadron.

The program is designed to be implemented at the Installation Commander's discretion and includes areas extending beyond the 75-foot rule outlined in the facility manager's handbook.

A map has been distributed to all facility managers designating specific areas of responsibility during the day's activities. Groups may work on outside areas and even paint if they so choose, thus Facility Managers can contact the Civil Engineer Self Help Store located in B830 Bay A for paint and supplies.

"We will also provide wood chips and mulch, on a first-come, first-served basis," said Nomura, "but they must come and get it."

Each organization will be responsible to work in their respective areas, looking at exterior area clean-up, housekeeping and grounds. This includes trash pick-up, weeds, flower beds, proper equipment storage, sweeping and window cleaning.

Organizations will provide their own tools and trash bags in order to accomplish the task.

Roll-off dumpsters will be placed at key locations to accept throw-away items. Tires, liquids or hazardous materials MAY NOT be dumped in the containers.

Harry Briesmaster, director of the 75th Civil Engineer Group says, "This is a excellent opportunity for everyone to get out of their offices and clean up the base to make it a better place in which to live, work and play."
