Construction begins on Northbound I-15 between Clearfield, Roy Sunday

OGDEN, Utah --  The Utah Department of Transportation advises motorists that work will begin on a new auxiliary lane on northbound Interstate 15, between 650 North in Clearfield and 5600 South in Roy, beginning Sunday, March 25.

Beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday evening, crews will start the excavation work on the new northbound lane, which will facilitate the entrance of traffic onto I-15 near the West Gate of Hill Air Force Base at the 650 North Interchange, Exit 335, and assist vehicles in slowing to exit the interstate at 5600 South, Exit 338, in Roy, near the Hill AFB Roy Gate. Crews will work nightly during off-peak traffic periods, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night, Sunday through Friday.

Occasionally, some work may occur on the weekends during similar work periods. Daytime shoulder work, which began early in March, will continue through the duration of the project and is expected to be complete this summer.

Motorists entering this construction zone should merge to the left lanes upon seeing signs indicating construction ahead. Travelers should reduce their speed and be aware of workers and equipment in the lane adjacent to the open lanes of traffic.

Since light to moderate congestion may occur periodically, those motorists with time-sensitive travel may want to use alternate routes, such as US-89 in eastern Davis County to I-84 West in Uintah, regaining NB I-15 at Riverdale; or NB SR-126 (1900 West), beginning at 650 North in Clearfield and regaining NB I-15 via Hinckley Drive (SR-79) at the Ogden 31st Street Interchange, Exit 341.

Local residents should expect to experience some occasional construction-related noise and vibration.

Work may be delayed from time to time due to inclement weather, material or equipment availability, emergency situations and other factors.
