The 75th Air Base Wing History Office was recently recognized by the Air Force Materiel Command as the AFMC 2022 Best Wing History Office at an awards presentation May 18 at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.

The award highlighted three areas the History Office excelled at in 2022: producing a timely study on the 75 ABW's munitions support operations, historically documenting the Ogden Air Logistic Complex’s mission in addition to that of the wing and integrating history across the installation.

Jonathan Bingham, 75th ABW historian, said he is humbled by the award and grateful that his hard work is being recognized.

“While there is some science to running an Air Force Wing History Office, it is more of an art than a science,” he said. “This award recognizes that the 75 ABW History Office is on the right track in working towards program objectives.”

Bingham said serving as an Air Force historian can be challenging, particularly in learning to balance time allocation in the various responsibilities, including documenting the mission, heritage support and answering historical inquiries, among others. He said while it can sometimes be overlooked, it is a very important and valuable tool.

“History and heritage can be a force multiplier if applied correctly by leaders, so it’s important for Air Force historians to find the right balance,” he said.
